- Cystoscopies with advanced imaging techniques for treating the bladder condition
- Trans-rectal ultrasound for diagnosing prostate problems
- Doppler ultrasounds for diagnosing sexual dysfunction caused by vascular conditions.
- Urodynamic testing for diagnosing bladder dysfunction
- Invasive and laparoscopic surgery for prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancer.
- Surgery to treat sexual dysfunction and infertility

- Radical prostatectomy – To treat prostate cancer
- Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) – To treat bladder cancer
- Ureteroscopy and PCNL (percutaneous nephrolithotomy) – For diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as kidney and ureteral stones
- Treatment for undescended testes (cryptorchidism)
- Brachytherapy – The implantation of radioactive seeds to treat prostate cancer
- Meatotomy – Surgical procedure to repair urethral stricture
- Ureteral stent placement – To treat obstruction of urine flow
- Suprapubic prostatectomy (SPP) and transurethral prostatectomy (TURP) – For benign prostate removal
- Percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL) – For kidney stones
- Diagnostic cystoscopy – Endoscopy of the bladder
- Orchidopexy - Repair of undescended testes (cryptorchidism)
- Kidney cancer treatment, mainly laparoscopic
- Testicular cancer treatment
- Bladder cancer treatment
- Prostate cancer treatment
Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center specializes in advanced radioisotope implants for prostate cancer (brachytherapy), which, until now, has been performed almost exclusively in our hospital. This treatment has minimal impact on patient quality of life.
Specialty Robotic Surgery Service
The Urology Department's specialty Robotic Surgery Service offers world-class oncology care and minimally invasive surgery with the new da Vinci Xi Surgical System.
Specialty clinics
Specialty clinics are offered in:
- Uro-oncology – bladder, urinary tract, kidney, prostate, and testicular cancer
- Endourology/kidney diseases
- Sexual dysfunction
- General urology
Research
The Department of Urology leads clinical research studies in areas such as: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), cancers of the prostate and bladder, and sexual dysfunction. To facilitate translational research, the department features the only on-site research lab in Israel that conducts basic prostate cancer.
Collaborative basic science research is conducted with Israeli institutions, such as the Weizmann Institute, Hebrew University, and Tel Aviv University.
Surgical Robotics Service
State-of-the-art robotic surgery system enhances surgical outcomes
The Surgical Robotics Service of Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center offers world-class oncology care and minimally invasive surgery with the new da Vinci Xi Surgical System.
The da Vinci Xi Robot allows the surgeon to perform precise laparoscopic procedures – refining and perfecting the movements of the human hand. This accuracy enables surgical oncologists to better target diseased areas while preserving healthy ones. In prostate surgery, this allows more exact removal of cancerous tissue, sparing areas that control sexual and urinary function.
Enhanced surgical viewing and access
The da Vinci system endoscope provides surgeons with an enhanced, magnified, 3-dimensional view, which greatly exceeds that of conventional laparoscopic instruments. Serving as a natural extension of the surgeon’s eyes and hands, the robot improves the surgeon’s reach into the body.
Smaller incisions lead to accelerated recovery
Robotic surgery is typically performed through several 8-millimeter incisions, much smaller than the incisions of conventional surgery. The smaller incisions translate into less pain and better skin healing. Patients who undergo robotic surgery routinely require fewer blood transfusions, recover faster, and return sooner to normal activities with higher levels of functioning.
Technology and expertise paving the way for the future
Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center is proud to be the first and only hospital in the Middle East to be using the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, the newest generation of robot available. This cutting-edge technology and medical mastery enable the Medical Center to take surgery to a whole new level, with options to perform innovative procedures, such as single-incision surgeries and 4-quadrant abdominal surgeries.
- Procedures performed using the da Vinci system
- Radical prostatectomy to treat prostate cancer
- Radical nephrectomy and kidney surgery to remove kidney tumors
- Repairing stenoses (narrowing) in the junction between the renal pelvis and the ureter
- Bladder surgery to treat cancer and other conditions
