Main Description
TASMC is a surgically oriented medical center, and the ultra-modern Surgical Service is at the heart of this vast enterprise.

The Service offers a broad array of advanced treatments in all surgical disciplines, including complex cancer operations, brain surgery, cardiac surgery, organ transplantation, and plastic reconstruction procedures. The fact that hospital volume affects prognosis is now well established. The number of special procedures which serve as the basis for assessing quality of care, such as pancreatectomy, sarcoma surgery and esophagectomy, put our Surgical Service on a par with leading medical centers throughout the western world.

TASMC’s Surgical Service was the first in Israel to implement a strategy of specialization in all surgical disciplines. The Service contains:

  • Brachytherapy for prostate cancer avoiding the need for surgery or external radiation
  • Sophisticated limb-sparing surgery for soft tissue and bone sarcoma.
  • Advanced regional surgical treatment for cancer, such as isolated limb perfusion with tumor necrosis factor and aggressive cytoreduction of abdominal carcinomatosis and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy
  • Radio-isotope guided surgery
  • Complex neurosurgical procedures including MRT-guided operations
  • Endovascular surgery
  • Advanced microsurgery including reconstruction of plexi and peripheral nerves
  • Transanal microscopic surgery

The staff includes more than 20 Professors who are leading experts and surgeons in their respective fields, and all wards are academically affiliated to the Sackler Faculty of Medicine of Tel Aviv University. TASMC’s policy of excellence has made it a leading surgical facility and a major referral center for patients with complex conditions.

The Future

  • Further investment in surgical education
  • Development of fellowship programs for post-residency physicians
  • Continuing development of a training center (which has already been established) for training residents and fellows in laparoscopic techniques
  • Closer ties and research collaboration with the Weizmann Institute and other research centers in Israel and abroad
  • Introduction of robotics into surgery
  • Development of image (combination of CT, MRI and isotope)-guided surgery
  • Establishment of a comprehensive multidisciplinary Trauma Center.
